Three-piece rock outfit Katapult belongs to the latest recording acts in Czecgislovakia, but its members have been around for more than ten years playing in various local bands. Like most of the rock musicians who are now in their thirties, they started on songs from early Rolling Stones and Kinks albums and matured on the Beatles. Singer Oldřich Říha who plays guitar and writes the songs as well, was a long time attraction in a band led by drummer František Ringo Čech which combined hard rock with comedy. In 1974 Říha formed a strictly rock-oriented trio which later became Katapult. Next year he left Čech and started to work extensively in clubs and ballrooms. The reaction of the audience was very surprising. The new band gained nationwide following a long time before the release of their first single.
